The Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD) has announced Larry Margolis, managing partner at SPM Marketing & Communications in La Grange, Illinois, is the recipient of the 2018 SHSMD Leadership Excellence Award. The award is the highest honor a member can receive from SHSMD. Margolis was selected for this award based on outstanding achievements in the following areas:

Innovation in the practice of the strategy disciplines.
Enhancement of the profession.
Exceptional personal qualities and leadership abilities.
Career achievements and progression.
Stewardship.

In the words of his nominators:

“Larry has helped define and evolve the field and set a standard of excellence and ethical practice for health care strategy professionals.”
“There are few who possess the combination of innovative thinking, depth of knowledge, compassion and humanity as Larry.”
“It’s really not a job for (Larry); it’s a passion to make our organizations and all of us better in the pursuit to care for others.”

Larry thanked SHSMD and his colleagues at SPM and across the field in accepting the award at last week’s SHSMD Connections annual conference. He also had words of encouragement for those in attendance saying, “Care about what you do and find joy in it. We as strategy professionals have a critical role to play in leading our organizations in the many aspects of the dramatic changes taking place in health care.”

SHSMD Rising Star
SHSMD has also announced Rebecca Blanken and Stephanie Roussell have been named recipients of the 2018 SHSMD Rising Star recognition for demonstrating strong achievement, potential for leadership, exceptional personal qualities and innovation. The SHSMD Rising Star Award is given to members under the age of 40 who are making a meaningful difference and are on a trajectory for future success within the health care strategy professions. Rebecca is director of support services and public relations at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, and Stephanie is marketing manager at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
